"In ‘Les Misérables,’ one thing director Tom Hooper wanted to have was color. Fantine always had to have reds and pinks in her outfit," said costume designer Paco Delgado. "I love to think in terms of color for characters and in moments of the movie. Color really connects with emotions that shape the psyche of the audience. Fantine’s a young girl who dressed well in the past but went through a lot of problems, so I wanted to capture that… We ended up portraying her as a prostitute in a really harsh red color that is the same color that you see at the beginning - the color of the convicts in the movie."
